The essay is an exploration of the politically engaged theater of Montreal-based company, Teesri Duniya and how it challenges cultural hegemony in Quebec against the backdrop of Bill 96, the francophone law adopted by the provincial government in 2022. Delving into the nuanced complexities of one particular Teesri Duniya play, Counter Offence by Rahul Varma, the article examines Teesri Duniya’s redefining productions which interrupt mainstream narratives and question nationalist tendencies by offering a compelling dialogue on racial, gendered, and linguistic marginalization as well as social justice.
