Shailee was invited to deliver a guest lecture on ‘Ancient Myths in Contemporary Theater’ for Prof. Katherine Zien’s undergraduate seminar, “Introduction to Theatre Studies,” at McGill University in September 2023. Her talk was based on her graduate research and explored the adaptation of South Asian myths to the stage, with a particular focus on A Mangai’s translated play Frozen Fire. She discussed how the play reimagines the gender transformation of Shikhandi from the Hindu epic Mahabharata and recenters the agency of a queer character by borrowing elements from Tamil therukoothu performance tradition and Boalian theater.
